Göliska IT secures critical functions with the right network solution
Göliska IT is a municipal association that among other things operates and develops the IT infrastructure for six municipalities. They serve everything from schools and retirement homes to healthcare facilities and critical functions. One robust and secure network is a prerequisite for teaching in schools, for the safe distribution of medicines and medicines in care homesn, and in order to important socialinformation to reach citizens.
When the municipalities of Götene, Lidköping and Skara realized that their separate IT organizations could be less vulnerable by working together, the municipal association Göliska IT was founded in 2004. Bringing the expertise together in one place created a more robust and secure operation. Since then, Grästorp, Essunga and Vara have also joined, and the association now consists of six municipalities in the Skaraborg area that manage IT issues jointly.
– It provides security that we help each other. Through joint procurement and cooperation, we can both save money and ensure that we always have access to the latest technology,” says Peter Holmgren, Head of IT Production at Göliska IT.
The network infrastructure for which Göliska IT is responsible serves eighteen municipal companies and hundreds of activities in the six municipalities, such as schools and care homes. It is used for critical municipal business systems, and enables digital medicine dispensing and access to medical records, as well as information dissemination on municipal websites.
Long-term cooperation for a future-proof network
To ensure a reliable and modern infrastructure, Göliska IT has a procured supply agreement with Aranya that covers everything in networks and security – from strategic advice to skills supply and technical products.
Göliska IT has a high level of expertise internally in networks and security, but for the extra edge and strategic planning they take support from Aranya. Through the collaboration, they not only get technical support but also guidance on how the infrastructure should evolve over time to meet future requirements.
– We get strategic advice on the pace of investment and technology choices, so we can plan proactively and avoid technical debt,” says Peter.
The network is built to be maintained without affecting operations. Today they do not announce the upgrades as they can be implemented in full operation.
– We can start upgrading the wireless network at 6 p.m., and three hours later it’s ready without anyone even noticing.
Ensuring that the right devices have access to the right resources is an important part of working with the network. The number of connected devices is constantly increasing, and in addition to computers and mobile phones, the network now needs to manage a growing number of IoT devices, smart sensors and other connected technologies.
– This places higher demands on capacity, availability and security, and that we can develop the network in a flexible way to meet the need,” says Peter.

The collaboration between Göliska IT and Aranya is characterized by a long-term perspective and a pragmatic approach. Through an open and trusting relationship, they have been able to simplify processes, make quick decisions and continuously improve the network infrastructure.
